POLICE ARREST FIVE OVER MURDER OF UNIVERSITY GRADUATE IN KWARA

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of a 46-year-old graduate of the University of Ilorin, Lanre Adebayo.

Adebayo, a Political Science graduate, was reportedly tortured to death on Monday, October 21, 2024, in the Ita-Elepa area of Ilorin West Local Government Area, following an altercation with local vigilante security guards.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects included a community leader, two local vigilante guards, and two other individuals who allegedly participated in the assault that led to Adebayo’s death.

Sources revealed that the incident began as a heated argument between Adebayo and the vigilante guards while he was on his way home. The disagreement quickly escalated, resulting in a brutal attack.

Confirming the arrests, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended after the case was reported to the command headquarters on Wednesday evening.

“The case was reported to us, and five male suspects have been arrested for further questioning. An investigation is ongoing, and we will provide more details once it is concluded,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.

The arrest of the suspects has sparked outrage in the community, with residents calling for justice over the senseless killing of the university graduate.
